This Museum is housed in what was once the Warden's house of the Letterkenny Workhouse, which was opened in 1845. The role of Donegal County Museum is to collect, record, preserve, communicate and display for the use and enjoyment of the widest community possible, the material evidence and associated information of the history of Donegal. By doing so it aims to enrich the lives and sense of identity of every person in the county.
Donegal County Museum has two exhibition galleries. The first floor gallery contains a permanent exhibition which tells the story of County Donegal from the Mesolithic to the Medieval and of the people places and events from the Penal times, through the Famine and the Land War to the First World War and the Emergency. Temporary exhibitions are held all year round in the ground floor gallery.

Glenveagh National Park
Glenveagh National Park lies in the heart of the Derryveagh Mountains in the north-west of Co. Donegal. It is a remote and hauntingly beautiful wilderness of rugged mountains and pristine lakes. The Park, over 16,000 hectares in extent consists of three areas. The largest of these is the former Glenveagh Estate, including most of the Derryveagh Mountains. To the west are the quartzite hills around Crocknafarragh and to the south, the peatlands of Lough Barra bog, Meenachullion and Crockastoller.

The Grianan of Aileach
This is a group of historic monuments in County Donegal, Ireland built on the hill of Grianán which is 244 metres high. Most writers have identified the site as being the great “royal fort” of Aileach. The main monument is that of an Iron Age stone fortress. It is generally accepted to be the seat of the Kingdom of Aileach although the true capital is now believed to lie further to the east. It is a wonderful place for a day trip.
